Since 1975, watching movies on Christmas day has been part of the Pinoy tradition. It seems that the Metro Manila Film Festival is the perfect follow up to Noche Buena and the opening of presents on December 25. Here is the full lineup of the MMFF 2019 movies to watch this Christmas.
Write About Love is about an aspiring writer who aspires to make a movie about love even if she herself hasn’t experienced it; and a veteran scriptwriter, who compares the three acts of a love story to a grocery list. The two put together the next big blockbuster and a potentially heartbreaking tale about themselves. It stars Miles Ocampo and Rocco Nacino, produced by TBA Studios.
Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza team-up anew for Mission Unstoppable: The Don Identity. It revolves around the exploits of Don Robert Fortun who was accused to have committed a heinous crime and forms a group to clear his name and to retrieve the precious Pearl of the Orient from his brother Benjie.
3Pol Trobol is about Apollo “Pol” Balbon who is a loving son to single mother Mary Balbon. He works as a bodyguard for the executive director of National Defense Agency, who was ambushed after discovering an anomaly. He, however, managed to pass on key information to Pol before dying. The film stars Coco Martin, Ai-ai delas Alas, Jennylyn Mercado, Bianca Manalo, and Sam Milby.
Culion, written by Ricky Lee and directed by Alvin Yapan is about breaking the stigma of this breathtaking island in the northernmost part of Palawan once known as the biggest leper colony in the world attempts to and boost the local efforts to make it a prime tourist hotspot. It stars Iza Calzado, Meryll Soriano, and Justin Curtis-Smith.
Sunod is Carmina Villarroel’s comeback horror film. She plays a single mother to a dying girl and will do everything for her. She is supported in the film by Mylene Dizon, Freddie Webb, Susan Africa, Kate Alejandrino, Krystal Brimner, Rhed Bustamante, and JC Santos.
This entry, Miracle on Cell No. 7 is an adaptation from the original 2013 movie about a mentally challenged father who is unjustly jailed for the murder of a child. He makes new friends out of his fellow inmates, who then connive to reunite him with his daughter. It stars Aga Muhlach together with Xia Vigor, Bela Padilla, JC Santos, and Joel Torre.
Brillante Ma. Mendoza directs Mindanao which stars Judy Ann Santos. It is about a mother who cares for her child with terminal cancer while having a husband on active duty as a soldier.
Vice Ganda leads the cast of The Mall, The Merrier together with Anne Curtis-Smith. It is about two dysfunctional siblings who inherit a very old and mysterious mall. The two protect the mall from their evil aunt.
