We just got confirmation that “Next to Normal” will be Ateneo Blue Repertory’s next production. It will be the student theater group’s 28th Season Finale which will run from March 5 to 22, 2020.
Fresh from the success of “Bring It On”, in November, blueREP will bravely stage this show that tackles sensitive topics including mental health, drug abuse, depression, suicide, and divorce.
The 2008 American rock musical with book & lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt centers on a mother with worsening bipolar disorder that affects her family and their relationships with each other. It won several awards including 3 Tony’s: Best Original Score, Best Orchestration, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley.
blueREP is still to finalize the casting but we do know that they will be joined by professional theater actors for the roles of Diana and Dan. They will announce that together with the creative team very soon so stay glued to PalabasTayo for updates.
Incidentally, the student theater group also posted that they are looking to cast the younger roles, Gabe, Natalie, Henry, as well as Dr. Madden.
