9Works Theatrical just announced that THE BODYGUARD The Musical, Manila will open this November 2020 at the Theater at Solaire.
The musical is based on the screenplay of Lawrence Kasdan for the film that starred the late Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in 1992. It was first staged as a musical in December 2012 at the West End with the book written by Alexander Dinelaris. The score featured iconic songs of Whitney Houston including “Queen of the Night”, “Greatest Love of All”, “Run to You”, “I Have Nothing” and her cover version of the Dolly Parton original, “I Will Always Love You”.
The show which is presented in Manila with special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) is about a former secret service agent turned bodyguard, hired to protect a pop superstar from a stalker. They both unexpectedly fall in love.
No casting has been announced by the company yet BUT WE WISH the role of Rachel Marron (played by Alexandra Burke in the world premiere) to be played by Morissette Amon. In our opinion, nobody else can provide the combined superstar power and vocal chops to pull off the role.
Given the experience and training of Asia’s Phoenix in theater, having done Camp Rock with Repertory Philippines, and with a romantic relationship that she can pull emotions from, she is no less than perfection.
