The multi-award-winning musical makes its way to Manila for its international premiere. It runs from March 13 to 29, 2020 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City directed by Bobby Garcia for Atlantis Theatrical. We were invited to the rehearsals where the cast led by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (who plays Dina) gave a sneak peek The Band’s Visit. Here is a video of cast performing an excerpt from the song “Answer Me” with Jep Go who plays the Telephone Guy.
In an interview, Jep Go shared that like the telephone guy “in life, we are all waiting for a certain call, an answer, or a sign which is why this musical really hits home.” The Band’s Visit is a musical with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Itamar Moses. It is based on the 2007 Israeli film of the same name. It got critical acclaim and awards including Obie, New York Drama Critics Circle, Grammy, and the 72nd Tony Awards where it won the “big six” Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, and Best Direction of a Musical
The Manila run boasts Faust Peneyra as the set designer; Adam Honore, lighting designer; Farley Asuncion, musical director; Cecile Martinez, musical staging director; Odelon Simpao, costume designer; ManMan Angsico, vocals director; GA Fallarme, projection designer; Jaydee Jasa, makeup designer, and Justin Stasiw as sound designer.
The complete cast also includes Rody Vera, Mark Bautista, Nino Alejandro, Bibo Reyes, Reb Atadero, Jill Peña, Maronne Cruz, Jep Go, Floyd Tena, Dean Rosen, Steven Conde, Rhenwyn Galbalonzo, and Leanne Mamonong.
