SiriusXM host Seth Rudetsky together with his husband, producer James Wesley has just announced that Tony Award winner and Filipino Broadway star, Lea Salonga will join #StarsInTheHouse. She is scheduled to perform on Saturday, March 28 at 2PM ET (March 29, 2AM, Manila Time).
Star In The House is a daily series streamed live on the internet to support The Actors Fund and its services. In the wake of COVID-19 fears that has affected people worldwide, including the indefinite shutdown of theater shows, the show aims to raise funds for everyone in the performing arts and entertainment industry (not just actors) affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Recently, Lea Salonga’s North American tour was postponed due also to the current COVID-19 outbreak. She was one of the guests in the one-night-only Rosie O’Donnel show to raise funds for The Actors Fund. Back in Manila, she participated in ABS-CBN’s “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig”. She will also be participating in “Bayanihan Musikahan”, a humanitarian event to help out Urban poor communities in Metro Manila.
The original Kim will be joining Stars In The House‘s roster of stars including Idina Menzel, Matt Bomer, Sara Bareilles, Grant Gustin, Jason Alexander, Kristen Chenoweth as well as couples like Audra McDonald and Will Swenson, Frozen composers Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, writers Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond. Seth shared that “we are just inviting people via text and email. A week from Saturday, we got an email from Lea Salonga. She asks to be on it. I was like, yeah we want you.” Given the 12-hour difference, he added, “She’s in Manila and she’s gonna do the 2PM broadcast. She’s gonna stay up until 2AM (Manila Time) and do our broadcast, fully singing.”
Stars In The House airs every day at 2PM ET and 8PM ET. It combines entertainment and education with its Broadway stars as guest performers and CBS Chief Medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook who join the hosts via Stream Yard video conferencing. Between every musical number, Seth and James chat with the guests who share performance anecdotes. LaPook on the other hand, shares facts about COVID-19, how to prevent and manage it. They also have popular friends who join the video conference to surprise the guests to encourage viewers to also call loved ones and check on how they are doing in these quarantined times. It is like having free front row seats to a live concert in the comfort of your own living room as viewers can interact with the guests in real-time and donate to charity. The show has raised over 50,000 USD just on its first four days of streaming.
Philanthropic work is not unfamiliar territory to Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley. Seth, an American musician, actor, writer, and radio host is usually the first to pick up the mantle and run with it. He seems always ready to put together charitable efforts when tragedy strikes. He is one of the driving forces behind Concert for America and Broadway for Orlando to name a few. Stars in the House aims to stream every single day until Broadway raises its curtains again. James on the other hand, James conceived and co-produced Voices for the Voiceless on Broadway which shined a spotlight on foster care. He also produced and hosted a concert series called Concert for America in response to marginalized people who would suffer after 2016’s presidential election.
