Disney+ has announced that the newest Pixar Animation Studios’ SparkShorts project, Out, will debut on the streaming service on May 22.
Out will be the seventh Pixar SparkShorts project after an impressive list of animated shorts including Purl, Smash and Grab, Kitbull, Float, Wind, Loop which are currently streaming on Disney+
The announcement is ahead of the June Pride Month which a celebration of the LGBTQIA community. Coming out is not always an easy thing because of the possibility of rejection and being disowned so this story will be a welcome option.
In the above trailer, we see a man holding a framed photo of himself with another man. He is rehearsing his coming out speech for his parents who suddenly appears at his front door. He immediately hides the picture and lets them in. The dog tries to help out by grabbing the picture frame and putting it inside his master’s bedside drawer. Unfortunately, the mom sees the dog by the bed and takes the frame out of the drawer.
According to Jim Morris, President of Pixar Animation Studios: “The SparkShorts program is designed to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows. These films are unlike anything we’ve ever done at Pixar, providing an opportunity to unlock the potential of individual artists and their inventive filmmaking approaches on a smaller scale than our normal fare.”
Although some have found a way to work around it, Disney+ is not yet officially available in the Philippines but with the closing DisneyLife last April 2020, let’s hope that changes soon.
