Platinum-selling artist Natalie Imbruglia has announced her forthcoming studio album, Firebird, set to be released on September 24. It’s Imbruglia’s first album in six years and the first with BMG since signing for recordings in 2019.
Almost entirely written during the lockdown, Firebird features a wide range of credited guests including Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes, Romeo Stodart of The Magic Fingers, Fiona Bevan (One Direction, Ed Sheeran), Eg White (Adele, Dua Lipa), and many more.
The singer-songwriter shared the first single from the album, Build It Better, on Friday, June 18.
Discussing the album, Natalie Imbruglia said, “Making this album has been such a profound and satisfying experience. Having gone through a long period of what essentially was writer’s block, it was sometimes hard to envisage getting to this place. Before the pandemic, I started the process of writing this album in London, and soon after, I headed to Nashville. With each session and new collaborator, I started to gain confidence, find my voice again, and craft the sound and style that felt authentic to me. It’s been such a privilege to work with such an array of talent on Firebird. I just can’t wait for people to finally hear it.”
The multi-talented performer started her career in Australia’s iconic television series Neighbours, known for having a strong musical heritage, and has helped launch the careers of notable Australian talent including Kylie Minogue – also signed to BMG. In 1997, Imbruglia released international smash hit ‘Torn,’ which has sold over a million copies and has never left the Top 200 radio airplay chart since its release. Imbruglia’s debut album, Left of The Middle has sold seven million copies with career album sales surpassing 10 million.
Imbruglia’s career has seen her achieve platinum-selling albums, successful movies, stage and TV roles, as well as acclaimed live tours. She has won multiple awards including; MTV Video Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Brits Awards, and she was presented with an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ by the Australian Recording Industry (ARIA’s).
