singer/songwriter FLETCHER shares her intoxicating new single “girls girls girls,” a bold reimagining of Katy Perry’s groundbreaking hit “I Kissed a Girl.” With Perry’s early stamp of approval, “girls girls girls” continues the original track’s legacy as a key force in bringing LGBTQ+ to the forefront of the mainstream. While the 2008 mega-hit was all about sexual curiosity and empowerment, FLETCHER made the decision to celebrate her queer identity just as loudly as her sexual expression by acknowledging “it’s not phase,” despite what others may say.

Produced with Kito (collaborator of her gold-certified track “Bitter”), the single cements FLETCHER’s status as one of her generation’s most fascinating queer icons. With its chorus lyrics partly lifted from “I Kissed a Girl,” the song pays tribute to Perry while letting FLETCHER’s signature sensibilities shine. To that end, “girls girls girls” unfolds in a minimalist alt-pop sound (fluttery beats, shimmering textures, delicate guitar tones), ultimately spotlighting her hypnotic vocals and intimately detailed, uninhibited storytelling.

As FLETCHER reveals, “I Kissed a Girl” played a crucial part in her own coming-of-age and self-discovery. “I remember my mom was dropping me off at school one day in 2008 and ‘I Kissed a Girl’ came on the radio, and my mom kind of gasped at the lyrics,” she says. “I had this moment in my head where I was like, ‘Fuck, I think I might like girls.’ In a lot of ways that song really marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of self-exploration and coming into my queerness and learning how to express my truth in a bold and unapologetic way. ‘girls girls girls’ is the freedom and the celebration I’ve been craving my whole life, and a way for me to share my own perspective and journey while honoring a song that empowered me to embark on it in the first place.”

“girls girls girls” has already captured the world’s imagination thanks to a couple of viral clips that have already emerged on Tik Tok. The song arrives as FLETCHER’s much-awaited follow-up to “Healing,” a June release praised by NME as “luminous…An ode to the reclamation of one’s inner strength.” Meanwhile, the powerful video for “Healing” (co-directed by Fletcher and Ava Rikki) inspired V Magazine to declare that “FLETCHER isn’t just a pop star but an artist and this music video is her testimony.”

In the last year, FLETCHER has also made waves with tracks like “Bitter,” a gold-certified hit that’s amassed over 1705 million streams to date. Hailed by Idolator as “a breakup anthem for the ages,” “Bitter” is a standout cut from her critically lauded EP THE S(EX) TAPES — a collection of magnetic and moody pop songs about finding your forever person before you find yourself and, as a result, needing to uncover the parts of you that remain unknown. Soon after arriving in September 2020, the EP earned praise from outlets like Nylon, Teen Vogue, PAPER, SPIN (who noted “there aren’t any rules when it comes to FLETCHER’s music”).
