Multi-platinum award-winning artist Logic returns with the second single, ‘Highlife’, from his upcoming independent studio album College Park due February 24 via BMG. The official music video for the single is directed by cult-favorite award-winning actor and filmmaker Kevin Smith and features the original cast of his debut cult-classic film Clerks.
The rapper has long admired Smith’s work and has previously credited him as a major influence on his music. A self-described orphan with parents, Logic has been vocal about his upbringing by an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. He has said he spent his days immersed in music and cinema, as a means to escape and cope. Directors like Tarantino and Spielberg were idols to the future rap star, and one director, due to his grit and authenticity, always had a special impact on Logic – Kevin Smith.
Smith arguably changed cinema with his indie phenomenon hit, Clerks, which he wrote, produced, and directed. The cult-classic permeated pop culture and influenced generations to follow – with Logic publicly expressing his adoration. Ahead of Clerks 3, Smith contacted Logic via Instagram, inviting him to appear in the feature but being away from social media, Logic never received the message. They eventually connected and their fast-growing friendship evolved into this collaboration.
For this stoner anthem, Smith assembled the Clerks cast at the original New Jersey Quickstop set – and featured Logic as the star of the show.
College Park is Logic’s eighth studio album and represents his journey to date and simultaneously celebrates a new beginning. Born Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, Logic first gained widespread recognition with the release of his mixtape Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever in 2013. He spent the next decade accumulating dozens of gold and platinum certifications, two Grammy Award nominations, and more than eight billion streams. Logic signed a new deal with BMG in 2022 giving him more control of his music and allowing for the first time, ownership of his own sound recordings.
