BMG is pleased to announce the sale of its keenly-awaited Lewis Capaldi documentary How I’m Feeling Now to Netflix with the intimate portrait of Scottish singer-songwriter set to stream globally in April this year.
BMG commissioned the movie with co-financing assistance from Quickfire Films, and was produced by Pulse Films, executive produced by BMG, Independent Entertainment, and Quickfire Films, and directed by Joe Pearlman.
The verité-style film follows Capaldi from the chart-topping heights of his Grammy-nominated debut album Divinely Inspired To A Hellish Extent and one of the last pre-pandemic global arena tours to the stark reality of recording its follow-up in his parents’ garden shed during the pandemic lockdown.
The global Netflix deal – BMG’s first global sale to a streaming service – is believed to be the largest UK music documentary transaction of the past 12 months.
It comes just weeks after box office data showed that Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream, also executive produced and co-financed by BMG, was the most successful theatrical documentary of 2022.
Co-financed by BMG, Capaldi’s longtime global music publisher, the film is executive produced by Alistair Norbury, Stuart Souter, and William Kennedy for BMG.
BMG EVP Global Repertoire & Marketing Fred Casimir, who is responsible for the company’s film business, said, “Our partnership with Netflix for How I’m Feeling Now marks another significant milestone for our films business. We built our expertise and reputation with smaller-scale, but well-received documentaries and that patient build strategy is now being rewarded. We will continue to plough our own path, always putting the artist at the centre of the picture.”
BMG Vice President Films Stuart Souter, who has driven How I’m Feeling Now for BMG from inception through to final sale and deal making, said, “This is much more than just a music film. With the support of his family and manager Ryan Walter, Lewis has opened up in a unique way. Just like his music, we are confident that it will connect with people around the world”.
Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now is a BMG presents, in association with Quickfire Films, and Pulse Films production. The film was represented at market by Sarah Lebutsch and Cora Palfrey of Independent Entertainment.
