Silver Lining kicks-off its six-show run presented by Rockitwell Studios and MusicArtes, Inc. It combines original and captivating music, song and dance pieces, to tell the dramatic stories of two generations of Filipinos spanning the turbulent times of the 1970s to the present day.
The story line is dramatized by a stellar cast to explore and lay bare the similarities and differences between two generations: a set of parents who relive their youth in a creative set of flashback vignettes, and their children who struggle to understand the experiences of the latter.
As the Baby Boomer parents rekindle memories of their past joys, triumphs, defeats and disappointments in love and early life, their Millennial offspring discover both lessons and omens about their own evolving lives and personhood.
Set in both the present and the turbulent times of the Sixties and Seventies, Silver Lining is an audacious attempt to explore the complex challenges and ironies of growing up and growing old.
In the dramatic and emotional cauldron of their interpersonal relationships during a time of social and political upheaval, and their strategies to play the hand that their lives, loves and labors deal the characters portrayed, both young and old in the audience will discover the bittersweet joys of redemption illuminated in hope’s golden dawn.
The musical production stars screen and stage actor Ricky Davao (Aliw Hall of Fame Awardee for Best Actor) as Leo; Joel Nuñez as Anton; Raul Montesa as Raul; Nenel Arcayan as Josie.
Meanwhile Albert Silos, Noel Comia Jr. (three time Aliw Award winner for Best Child Actor), Jay Cortez, and Sara Sicam play their younger counterparts.
Also in the cast are Jep Go as Rico; Shaun Ocrisma as Mart; Maronne Cruz as Dalai; Krystal Brimner (Best Child Actress, Metro Manila Film Festival) as Julia; Khalil Tambio as Chito; and Hazel Maranan as Agnes, together with Sarah Facuri, Iya Villanueva, Dippy Arceo, Rodel Pingol, Ado Villanueva, and Joshua Tayco as the ensemble.
The musical is written by Jack Teotico (music and lyrics) and 9-time Palanca Awardee Joshua Lim So (book and lyrics). It is directed by PETA’s Artistic Director Maribel Legarda (Rak of Aegis, Care Divas), with musical direction, arrangement and additional music by Vince Lim (Walang Aray).
