Revolt, the 38th Season of Tanghalang Pilipino will kick-off with Balete which opens on September 13, 2024. In a groundbreaking theater production, largely devised from F. Sionil Jose’s novel “Tree”, his autobiography “Promdi” and Rody Vera’s Filipino adaptation “Balete”, the Tanghalang Pilipino Actor’s Company tackles the epic sweep of the elegiac novel through a rich tapestry of movement and visual storytelling.

The play follows the profound journey of a provincial landlord’s son back to a childhood filled with poignancy and brutality – a world bound in privilege, tradition and feudal oppression.

Balete

The eight-member ensemble (Nonie Buencamino, Jonathan Tadioan, Marco Viaña, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan, Toni Go-Yadao, Gelo Molina, Earvin Estioco, and Ynna Rafa) delves deep into the intricacies of memory, tradition, and the powerful ties that bind the individual, family and community.

Each chapter of the novel is staged as a unique creation brought to life by the collective imagery and emotional depth of the talented cast. A theatrical experience portraying the delicate dance between personal memory and collective trauma.

Balete is put together by an artistic team comprised by Chris Millado for Direction, Delphine Buencamino for Associate Direction and Movement Direction, Teresa Barrozo for Music and Sound Design, Wika Nadera for Set Design, Carlos Siongco for Costume Design, JM Jimenez for Projection Design, Roman Cruz for Lighting Design, and Sabrina Basilio for Dramaturgy.

The play runs from September 13 to October 6, 2024 at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, CCP Complex.
