Fresh from the success of a sold-out Othello run, CAST PH is back with a new offering this November, “Gruesome Playground Injuries”.
Gruesome Playground Injuries was written by Rajiv Joseph and was first staged Off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theater for a limited run in 2011. Since then, it has been produced and staged across the United States and around the world.
Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. It tackles themes and/or images of violence, self-harm, suicide, sexual assault, abuse, injuries, and blood.
Gruesome Playground Injuries will be directed by Nelsito Gomez, and will feature acclaimed actors Topper Fabregas (Uncle Jane, Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical) as Doug and Missy Maramara (The Half-Life of Marie Curie, GRACE, Uncle Jane) as Kayleen. Joining the team are Loy Arcenas (Set Design), Paul Adrian Martinez (Costume Design), Miyo Sta. Maria (Lighting Design), Carlos Siongco (Special Effects Makeup Design), Zoë de Ocampo (Graphic Design), and Juri Ito (Intimacy Coordination). It will run this November at The Mirror Studio Theater in Poblacion, Makati.
To further amplify the message of this powerful story, a portion of the total ticket sales will be donated to Tahanan Sta. Luisa (TSL), a crisis intervention center for girls who have lived and suffered on the streets of Manila. TSL helps these girls recover from the trauma of abuse and exploitation through education, empowerment, and livelihood opportunities.
Tickets are now available for its opening weekend: November 22, 23, and 24 at 7PM. Early bird tickets to Gruesome Playground Injuries are on sale for PHP 1000 until October 31, 2024, while the regular ticket price is at PHP 1200 and will be implemented beginning November 1, 2024.
