Singer, film and television actor, and sought-after thespian Mark Bautista is the latest to join the stellar cast of Theatre Group Asia (TGA)’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods as Rapunzel’s Prince. Into The Woods is coming this August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater (S-PAT).
Bautista smiles, “I’ve never played the role of a prince before, so this is going to be exciting for me. Falling in love with a princess is quite interesting as well. It’s a musical with so many intriguing characters and loads of references and elements in the story.” On tackling Sondheim’s masterful music, he adds, “Also, the fact that this is going to be my first Sondheim musical makes me feel more excited than ever to get involved with such a special material.”

An accomplished theater performer, Bautista has to his name a long list of memorable stage credits including roles in The Full Monty, Noli Me Tangere where he played Crisostomo Ibarra, South Pacific, Bituing Walang Nining, Heto Po Sila, The Band’s Visit, and Here Lies Love which he performed in the Royal National Theatre in London and for the Seattle Repertory.
Bautista joins previously announced cast members Joreen Bautista as Rapunzel, Arielle Jacobs as Cinderella, Joaquin Valdes as Prince Charming and The Wolf, Nyoy and Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante as The Baker and The Baker’s Wife, Nic Chien as Jack, Eugene Domingo as Jack’s Mother, and Lea Salonga as The Witch.
Into The Woods* is based on James Lapine’s book, who also directed the original Broadway run. The plot intertwines several fairy tale characters and dramatically portrays the impact of human choices and actions.
Behind this production of Into The Woods is Tony Award-winning visionary Clint Ramos, who serves as overall artistic and creative director alongside co-producers John and Joanna Echauz, and S-PAT Executive Director Chris Mohnani.
