For four consecutive years, Carla Guevara Laforteza has dominated the Aliw Awards, winning Best Actress and Best Featured Actress in a Musical. These accolades are but a few among the premier leading and character actress’s long list of prestigious acclaim for the several memorable roles she has played on stage over the years, which include Joseph the Dreamer, Ang Huling El Bimbo, Binondo, A Tsinoy Musical, Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale, Matilda The Musical, Spamalot, Rak of Aegis, 3 Stars and a Sun, Snow White and the Prince, One More Chance, Ben and Ben Musical, Bridges of Madison County, The Little Mermaid, Shrek The Musical, Addams Family, The King and I, Rent, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Nine, and Going Home to Christmas.
Laforteza is the latest to join Theatre Group Asia (TGA)’s stellar cast for its production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods this coming August, to be held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater (S-PAT). Laforteza will be playing the Giant, Granny, and Snow White.

She muses, “Bobby would probably be laughing his head off wherever he is because, as usual, he has decided to yet again cast me in multiple roles, not to mention the strangest roles in the show that is very unlikely for me to play. But I am up for the challenge! I’ve always enjoyed watching Into The Woods. I love the music, of course! It has a funny and clever way of weaving each fairy tale character into each other’s story. I am just so grateful to be able to do this show, especially since I will FINALLY be able to do a musical with my inspiration and idol, Lea Salonga! I’ve only done events and concerts with her so to be able to experience the process of rehearsals and doing the entire run with her is quite amazing.”
Like Salonga, Laforteza has previously played Kim, as well as Gigi, in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. Laforteza’s other international credits include roles in Saturday Night Fever The Musical, Avenue Q, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Laforteza recently celebrated her 30th anniversary in the industry through a concert entitled A`LA CARLOTTA, as part of the Cultural Center or the Philippines “Triple Threat” Leading Ladies concert series, with musical direction by renowned conductor Gerard Salonga, and directed by award-winning concert director, Paolo Valenciano. Laforteza is also a concert artist, TV and Movie actress, commercial model, vocal arranger, songwriter, recording artist, and costume stylist. She is the wife of Newport World Resorts Executive Chef, Godfrey Laforteza, and a proud mom of three, including Global Pop Superstar Sophia Laforteza of Katseye.
Into The Woods* is based on James Lapine’s book, who also directed the original Broadway run. The plot intertwines several fairy tale characters and dramatically portrays the impact of human choices and actions.
Behind this production of Into The Woods is Tony Award-winning visionary Clint Ramos, who serves as overall artistic and creative director alongside co-producers John and Joanna Echauz, and S-PAT Executive Director Chris Mohnani.
