Veteran actor, director, writer, and singer Jamie Wilson is set to play Cinderella’s Father/Steward in Theatre Group Asia (TGA)’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods this coming August, to be held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater (S-PAT).

He imparts, “Being a part of an ensemble has always been a wonderful experience, where you are tasked to build the world in which the story takes place. Oftentimes smaller roles can be so much fun because there’s more creative room to play with them! And in Into The Woods, the world we need to build is so rich with layers to explore. And in playing dual roles as Cinderella’s Father and the Steward, I anticipate a lot of fun is coming my way!”

With over 40 years of experience in the arts and entertainment industry, Wilson’s enduring passion for theater remains evident. He notes, “Into The Woods holds a very special place in my heart, mainly because of the courage it took to write about our favorite fairytale characters and make them more human, celebrating not only their strengths but also their flaws. The music is incredible, in true Sondheim style, with iconic songs and show-stopping production numbers, all of which are not only technically difficult to learn and sing, but also tremendously beautiful when you get it right. Few other musicals make my heart soar like Into The Woods!”

This is not the first time that Wilson is doing this Sondheim musical as he played Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf with New Voice Company in 2007.

Wilson was last seen on stage as Councilor Arturo Banlaoi in Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical. He has been recognized and critically acclaimed for numerous roles, particularly for his portrayal of Dave Bukatinsky in The Full Monty, and as the antagonist Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda The Musical, which were under the direction of Chari Arrespacochaga and Bobby Garcia respectively. His most recent theatrical work was as the Associate Director in TGA’s Request Sa Radyo. When he’s not working on a theatrical, film, or television production, Wilson can be found singing the blues with his band, The Blue Rats.

Into The Woods* is based on James Lapine’s book, who also directed the original Broadway run. The plot intertwines several fairy tale characters and dramatically portrays the impact of human choices and actions.

Behind this production of Into The Woods is Tony Award-winning visionary Clint Ramos, who serves as overall artistic and creative director alongside co-producers John and Joanna Echauz, and S-PAT Executive Director Chris Mohnani.
