Andrew Burnap, an actor from South Kingstown, Rhode Island, has recently been making waves for his roles in both the Broadway stage and film. With his current notable projects Disney’s Snow White and Othello, Burnap’s career continues to soar and shine even brighter.
Tony Award-Winning Performance
In 2019, Burnap starred as Toby Darling in The Inheritance on Broadway. His performance earned him the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play, a well-deserved honor that was delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic. Reflecting on his role, Burnap describes his character Jonathan in Snow White as someone “surviving in an ever-darkening world, secretly looking for hope.” His deep, nuanced performances continue to resonate with audiences and critics alike.

A Life-Changing Moment
Burnap vividly recalls the moment when he learned he had landed a role of Jonathan that would change his life. “I was outside when I got the call that I got the role. I was about to play a round of disc golf with my little brother, and I sat down on the gravel. I thought, ‘Wow, my life is really going to change.’” It’s clear that Burnap’s career is heading in a thrilling direction, and this moment of realization marked a major turning point.
Disney Dreams and Snow White
As a child, Burnap was a big fan of Disney films. “Aladdin was the best. I remember seeing The Lion King with my dad and doing Robin Williams impressions as a kid,” he recalls. Today, Burnap finds himself starring in Snow White (2025), taking on the role of Jonathan. He said on Good Morning America, “I was outside when I got the call that I got the role. I was about to play a round of disc golf with my little brother, and I sat down on the gravel. I thought, ‘Wow, my life is really going to change.’”

Playing Cassio in Othello
Currently, Burnap is performing on Broadway as Cassio in Othello, alongside Hollywood heavyweights Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington. He’s in awe of working with such accomplished actors, describing the experience as “a masterclass every day.” In an interview on CBS Mornings, he spoke about the privilege of acting alongside Gyllenhaal and Washington, saying, “They are two titans of the craft, speaking some of the greatest words ever written in the English language.” Burnap’s excitement is palpable as he shares how much he’s learning from both his castmates and the legendary Shakespeare play itself.
A Humble Journey
Before landing his role in Othello, Burnap had a chance to work with Gyllenhaal. He revealed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that as an up-and-coming actor, he was hired to run lines for a project. “I met up with him and we ran lines and we and we worked on the script together and I sort of started learning the process of this great actor.” He shared that Gyllenhall would tell him stories about his life and what it’s like living your life as an actor and an artist. “Jake is the coolest guy in the world,” Burnap says, reflecting on that early experience with his now co-star.
What’s Next?
Looking forward, Burnap isn’t sure what the future holds but knows he’ll be spending some time with his family and reconnecting with his roots in Rhode Island. He values the importance of family and staying grounded as he continues his career.
As Burnap’s star continues to rise, his dedication to his craft, love for storytelling, and humble approach to success are sure to make him one of the most influential actors of his generation. Whether on stage in Othello or on screen in Snow White, Burnap’s journey is just beginning—and it’s one worth watching.
