After its successful run of Next to Normal, The Sandbox Collective announces its next musical offering—Side Show, set to open in July 2025!
Side Show is a Broadway musical with book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Henry Krieger, the composer behind Dreamgirls. The musical is based on the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twins who became vaudeville stars during the 1920s and 1930s. Premiering on Broadway in 1997, Side Show earned four Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
The musical explores themes of acceptance, love, and embracing one’s individuality. With the Hilton twins as the headlining act in a sideshow run by an abusive ringmaster, the sisters are eager to seize the opportunity for fame, fortune, and the chance at romance offered by Terry, a talent scout, and Buddy, a rising musician. As stars of the Orpheum Circuit, they seem to have it all—but there’s one thing missing: the fulfilment of their emotional needs. Despite their differences, both Daisy and Violet share the same deep longing: “Who will love me for who I am?” Almost entirely sung-through, Side Show features soulful melodies, beautiful lyrics, and unforgettable show-stopping moments, including the iconic duets “Who Will Love Me as I Am” and “I Will Never Leave You.” A powerful celebration of self-acceptance, this musical will resonate deeply with audiences, reminding us all of the importance of embracing what makes us unique.
Side Show was staged by Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group in 2018 and was directed by the late Bobby Garcia. This July 2025 production will be directed by Toff de Venecia, with musical direction by Ejay Yatco. Fans can look forward to an unforgettable journey through the lives of these iconic sisters, exploring their challenges, triumphs, and the world of vaudeville entertainment.
