Zendaya will portray legendary singer Ronnie Spector in the upcoming biopic Be My Baby, produced by A24. The film will be directed by Barry Jenkins, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Moonlight, and written by David Kajganich, known for his work on Bones and All.
Zendaya, at 28, will also serve as a producer alongside Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, and Tom Shelly. A24’s collaboration with Jenkins continues, following their successful partnership on Moonlight. The film’s executive producer will be Jonathan Greenfield.

Be My Baby will focus on the tumultuous relationship between Ronnie Spector and her infamous husband, music producer Phil Spector. Rather than a traditional biopic, the film will offer an immersive exploration of Spector’s personal life, particularly her experience with the troubled producer. This interpretation is a vision shared by Zendaya and Jenkins, who had long been eager to collaborate on such a project.
Ronnie Spector, who passed away in 2022, personally selected Zendaya to play her in the film, making this project especially meaningful. The rights to her memoir, Be My Baby, and her life story have been secured, ensuring the film stays true to Spector’s legacy.
This film marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, following their work on the Emmy-winning Euphoria and Zendaya’s upcoming film The Drama. It is also the third partnership for Jenkins and A24, which includes Moonlight and the upcoming Sorry, Baby, a Sundance favorite.
Jenkins, who recently directed Mufasa: The Lion King for Disney, brings a wealth of experience to Be My Baby, continuing his streak of critically acclaimed work. Kajganich’s writing credits further add to the film’s promise, with his work on A Bigger Splash, Suspiria, and Bones and All adding to his reputation as a skilled screenwriter.
