Netflix announced that the music docseries “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” will premiere August 21, 2024.
The series follows 20 contestants from around the world over a year-long journey as they compete to become KATSEYE, a one-of-a-kind global girl group formed using KPOP methodologies. With unprecedented access, unfolding over eight episodes, the result is a compelling portrayal of the road to international stardom, including insight into the unique training and development program developed by HYBE and Geffen Records.
The Netflix-exclusive series produced by HYBE, Interscope Films and Boardwalk Pictures is directed by award-winning filmmaker, Nadia Hallgren, who was at the helm of the four-time Emmy(R) nominated Netflix documentary, Becoming.
The 20 contestants from around the world who will competed for a spot in the first-ever HYBE x Geffen Records girl group. The young women from diverse countries were selected after more than 120,000 submissions since HYBE and Geffen announced the joint venture, HYBE x Geffen Global Girl Group Audition, in November of 2021.
In November 2023, HYBE x Geffen Records revealed the final six members of the unprecedented global girl group as a result of “The Debut: Dream Academy” audition program: Daniela (USA), Yoonchae (South Korea), Lara (USA), Sophia (Philippines), Manon (Switzerland), Megan (USA). The group name, KATSEYE, was also unveiled. The announcement took place at a live event in Los Angeles and was live streamed simultaneously on HYBE LABELS YouTube Channel (Global), Weverse (Global), and ABEMA (Japan).
KATSEYE is set to release their EP, SIS (Soft is Strong) on August 16 via HYBE x Geffen after their recently released second single “Touch”.
