PARIS, 10 MARCH – John Herrera made his debut during Paris Fashion Week on Saturday, revealing his haute couture ‘Femme A La Mode’ collection at the city’s historic Salle De Wagram.

Paris Fashion Week has long been seen as a highly sought-after platform for both up-and-coming and renowned designers. Twice a year, top talent from the fashion world competes for attention during one of the busiest weeks in the fashion calendar. London-based Filipino designer John Herrera was recently granted this prestigious opportunity, making his debut by showcasing his 10-piece haute couture collection.

In creating the ten pieces positioned as an ‘homage to fashionable women throughout history’, Herrera cites his creative freedom, without being constrained by a specific creative direction, as the catalyst for the collection’s conception and development.

Herrera shares “I just wanted to really do my very best, hence the working late nights and having 3 jobs to be able to afford the materials I envisaged the collection in. I was always thinking of home, every minute. So using Piña Seda as a bridal veil in the finale bridal gown honoured my home country and the one I live in now.”

The collection features luxurious fabrics including silk duchess satin, silk-cotton velvets, glass bugles and Swarovski crystals. The bridal gown, which was the finale’s look, used yards of Piña Seda (silk derived from Philippine pineapples) for a veil, showcasing the best of fabrics native to the Southeast Asian nation.
