On April 14, 2025, Blue Origin made history with its first all-female crew on the New Shepard NS-31 mission. Among the crew was Grammy-nominated pop singer Katy Perry, whose performance in space captured hearts on Earth.

In a live video streamed by CBS shortly after landing back to earth, Katy Perry held a daisy—a flower that holds personal meaning for her, as it is also her daughter’s name. She spoke very emotionally about the flower, saying, “Daisies are common flowers. They grow through any condition. They grow through cement, they grow through cracks, they grow through walls. They are resilient. They are powerful. They are strong, they are everywhere.” Perry explained that daisies remind her of God’s smile and the magic of our beautiful Earth. She urged everyone to appreciate, protect, and care for these everyday miracles.

In her instagram reel that gave her fans a quick tour of the space capsule, Perry said prior to the launch that she will sing in space. When asked about her choice to sing “What A Wonderful World”, Perry shared, “I’ve covered that song in the past and obviously like my higher self is always steering the ship because I had no clue that one day I would decide to sing a little bit of that in space. But I think that it’s not about me—it’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us. It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging, and it’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”
