The 9th Studios Creative Hub presents ONCE A PANAHON: a trilogy of one-act plays written by Juliene Mendoza. The show features 30-minute plays that are fruits of writing workshops with award-winning playwright George de Jesus from 2012 to 2017. The three plays showcase some of Philippine Theater’s most promising talents together with veterans in stories that are pure fiction, slightly odd, and surreal:
Clowning Around is a quirky love story about a clown and an emotionally unstable girl. It stars Gawad Buhay winner, Jon Abella (Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!, Dekada ’70) and Matel Patayon (Himala: Isang Musikal, Rak of Aegis) directed by Fitz Bitaña (Lam-Ang).
John Mark Yap (Laro by Floy Quintos, Reading Lamouche) directs Collector’s Item. It tells a story about best friends, a bully, and a nerd fighting over a college crush. It stars Vincent Pajara (Laro, Romeo & Juliet, Dekada ’70) and Iggi Siasoco (Sinta, Virgin Labfest’s Multiverse, Mula Sa Buwan).
Ang Sundo is loosely adapted from The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde, and is about a Gardener of an Enchanted Garden, and his dilemma of choosing life or death in the twilight of his years. Actor Juliene Mendoza (Dekada ’70) also wears the director’s hat for this third and last play. It spotlights Awit Awardee, Lissa Del Valle (Florante at Laura, Ibong Adarna), Jun Ofracio (Miss Saigon, Bluebird of Happiness, Noli Me Tangere), and Abe Autea (Dekada ’70, Nana Rosa).
This is the first project of Juliene Mendoza as producer teaming up with his partners at the 9th Studios Creative Hub, one of the newest venues for creative projects. The 9th Studios provides a space for dance, fitness, art and music events as well as workshops, seminars, and lectures. With ONCE A PANAHON, the 9th Studios rounds off its image as a theater performance venue as well.
Once a Panahon’s Creative team includes Koko Marbella for music, Roy del Valle for Production Design, and Loraine Macatangay for Stage Management.
The show runs on March 21, 22, 28 & 29 at 8:00 pm at the 9th Studios Creative Hub, 9th floor, Dominion Building, Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City. Tickets are at P500 each.
